Configuring Your Computer for Email Communication
The specific steps needed to configure your computer to communicate via email depends on the
program you use to read and send email messages. All email programs, however, require the same
basic information so we have accumulated this summary to guide clients through the configuration
process.
Email Protocol
The type of email protocol we provide is POP. Some email programs can support more than one protocol, so if your program asks you which
type of email box or email protocol you are using, select the option for POP email. Since POP email is the default email type for most programs, you probably
won't have to modify this setting.
Address, Return Address, Reply-To Address
This is your unique email address - name@domain.com - which you will give to others so they can send email messages to you.
UserID, popID, Username
When we set up your email account we also created a unique login Username and Password that your
email program will use to retrieve your email from our server. Enter this case-sensitive login Username (also called a UserID or a popID) into your email program's configuration. Your login Username was relayed to the designated Client Contact associated with your account.
Password
Your email program's setup and configuration menu will ask you for the Password associated with your login Username so enter the Password exactly as we relayed it to the designated Client Contact associated with your account. Some programs do not ask for the password until you check your email for the first time. Remember, passwords are case-sensitive.
POP Server Name, Incoming Server Name
Our POP server will handle incoming email sent to your address. The name of our POP server is mail.ahoy.com.
SMTP Server Name, Outgoing Server Name
Outgoing email is handled by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Enter the SMTP server name that your ISP provided when you created your account with them.
If you continue to have difficulty configuring your email program we
recommend consulting the documentation that accompanied the software or the
manufacturer's Technical Support specialists who troubleshoot email configuration
problems. Our Technical Support Team is also available to provide consulting assistance to clients as requested.
